sweet and healthy treats

i asked on my instagram what my friends would like to see blog posts about. i received many responses, most of them sarcasm lol. but my good friend jake, who i met in austin and has an awesome cocktails IG called little_cantina, recommended that i post about sweet and healthy treats, which is something i am passionate about. i have a sweet tooth! and i like to eat healthy!

so, recently I’ve been cooking up some healthy treats to have around. here are a few recipes i like:

tried & true: nut butter on pitted dates

  • i love this combo because it is so simple and so good. if you find good dates (i like medjool) and top them with a nut butter, you’re in for a treat! dates also have a lot of health benefits like high fiber, which can help with digestion, and they’re relatively high in protein — so adding a nut butter on top means you’re in the winner’s circle, especially before or after a workout sesh. i like having dates with a nut butter for desserts when i’m in the mood for something sweet!

the newness: no bake vanilla cake bites by minimalist baker

  • i made these a few days ago, and my hubs tried to gobble them up in one sitting, but i said NO I need those for snacks. they are so simple and tasty, and really do satisfy the sweet tooth craving. they are made of almond and coconut flour (i used almond only), walnuts, dates, vanilla extract, and salt, so they’re super simple to whip up if you have a food processor handy. i liked having these in the fridge for a quick snack or to hold me over for a couple hours in between meals if i’m feeling bored or hungry.

sweet breakfast treat: chocolate covered katie chocolate peanut butter oatmeal

  • i LOVE katie’s recipes. they’re healthy, delicious, AND vegan. if you have rolled oats, almond milk, and a banana laying around, then you’re in for a treat. check out the recipe i linked above.

i like to browse recipes on love and lemons and minimalist baker for healthy treat ideas, based on what i have around. i would recommend keeping around: ground flax (egg sub), almond flour, rolled oats, almond milk, nuts, nut butter, coconut oil, and you’ll be in pretty good shape for some healthy treats.

i’m really interested in the possibilities of these cake bites. have you ever made any cake bites or energy balls? send me recipes!
